Safe In The Arms Of Love
Martina McBride, known best for her incredibly powerful
vocals and songs speaking about issues like domestic violence
and alcoholism, came into the limelight of country music
late in the 90s and has gradually established herself as
one of the top women in the business. She got into music
through her father and played in numerous bands growing
up in Kansas. In 1990, she and her husband John moved to
Nashville where John worked as a soundman for acts like
Charlie Daniels and Ricky Van Shelton. Martina signed with
RCA in 1991 and landed a spot as the opening act for Garth
Brooks’ tour. Her debut came out in 1992 with a follow-up
in 1993 that got her name out to the public. She had her
first of six number-one hits in 1996 and a double platinum
album in 1997 that really made her famous. A 2001 Greatest
Hits compilation went to number one on the country charts
(her first album to reach that status) and cracked the
top five in the pop charts. The compilation included four
previously unreleased singles, three of which would crack
the top ten when released as singles later on.
