Clint Black, described by many as a traditionalist of
country music and country in general, arrived on the country
music scene in 1989 along with other popular artists like
Garth Brooks and Alan Jackson. Black got into music at
an early age at his home in Houston and spent many years
traveling the club scene in the area looking for his big
chance. Black eventually signed with RCA Records and released
Killin’ Time in 1989. The album reached double platinum
and featured four number-one hits, most notably the single “Better
Man.” Black was able to follow his debut with another
double platinum album entitled “Put Yourself In My
Shoes” and walked away with the Horizon Award from
CMA in 1989 while also managing to earn the award for Top
Male Vocalist in 1990. 1991 was another big year for Black
as he was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry and also married
actress Lisa Hartman. After years of continued popularity,
Black was actually slightly criticized for writing so much
of his own music along with guitarist Hayden Nicholas but
in recent years, Black has made a conscious effort to look
at outside sources as another way of getting ideas for
                    his music. |
